About the Author
Mark Briggs is the author of "Journalism 2.0" and "Entrepreneurial Journalism" and maintains a widely read blog at www.journalism20.com/blog. He is a frequent speaker and presenter at journalism, media and technology conferences throughout the United States and overseas. He is currently the director of digital media at KING-TV in Seattle, and he previously served as assistant managing editor for Interactive News at The News Tribune in Tacoma, Wash., and as new-media director at The Herald in Everett, Wash. He earned journalism degrees from Gonzaga University and the University of North Carolina and was an adjunct professor at Seattle University from 2002 to 2006 and a Ford Fellow for Entrepreneurial Journalism at The Poynter Institute from 2010 to 2012.

Outstanding practical guide

The industry is changing rapidly, but this second edition is fresh and up-to-date, as of April 2013. As a 30-year print journalist and four-year new-media entrepreneur, I found the hands-on aspects of the book, as well as the resource links, to be invaluable. I appreciate the fact that Briggs included data journalism and online community management in addition to standard blogging, photo, audio and video journalism. As an adjunct journalism instructor, I require it as the main textbook for my multimedia students. The only criticism I have is that maybe the time has come for us longtime journalists to tone down comparisons between the past and now. Those distinctions are becoming irrelevant, especially to a generation of students who know only the world of today and need to prepare for the world of tomorrow.

Highly Recommended for Any Journalist

This book covers the changing landscape of journalism and reporting as we move into the digital age. This book is full of wonderful advice from people who are successful in their own "niches" of journalism.
It also contains a section about technology in general for journalists. Beware: It is extremely simplistic with basics like the definition of gigabyte, how to use FTP, basic HTML.
Personally, I most enjoyed the later chapters with practical tips and advice for making journalistic work more interesting and taking full advantage of the array of new tools available to us.
The book also contains basic advice for choosing digital tools(digital recorders, etc) and preparing content for digital publishing.
Overall, I highly recommend this book for any journalist.
