I grew up in Stoke-on-Trent, and lived in Kidsgrove, and near to Mow Cop, the home of Primitive Methodism, founded by Hugh Bourne and William Clowes. A chance comment by a neighbour, referring to a noisy Ranter prayer meeting ignited my interest in the Primitive Methodist movement. In 2009 during a visit to Englesea Brook Chapel and Museum, I felt challenged by the Holy Spirit to retell the story of this movement.

This accomplished two things for me. One, the first part was a great challenge and encouraging reminder of what God does with those who seek Him and obey Him fully. Two, the rest was a powerful warning of what happens when the vision is lost and we settle in for business as usual. I pray that God would use Primitive Methodists again to turn the world upside down.
